Historical Reflection

After looking back at how films have changed since the introduction of the internet and other modern technology, I have come to realize that films and movie-making have become less intimate to a degree. Back in the day, movies were made with much less technology available. Cameras were more expensive and the process of making and distributing films was much harder. The films had to be individually copied onto different reels, and they could only be watched in theaters until being released onto a VHS that could be bought or rented at a video store such as Blockbuster. But that has changed in this new age. Now, every smartphone has a camera that can film videos, and everybody has a form of social media that they can distribute their creations with. People of all ages, ranging from tweens to the elderly have TikTok accounts and YouTube where they post videos which can be monetized and earn millions of views generating thousands of dollars in income. This is a far cry from the past, in which only a skilled few could make a movie and even less could release it to a wide group. However, while film-making did lose some of what made it special, the rise of technology brought a much easier way to market and distribute movies. Now, trailers and previews can be released online that can circulate and get millions of views. Also, movies can be digitally distributed as a part of various streaming services. Overall, the rise of the internet has brought both benefits and hinderances to the film industry.
