We're in the Endgame Now

Since the last time this blog has been updated, my brother/partner and I have filmed all of the scenes in our film-opening, and we have created a rough cut of our footage. Of course, it is lacking the credits and the additional music we will add, not to mention that the final cut will be significantly shorter to match the 2 minute maximum time limit. This will be done by trimming down some scenes and perhaps even cutting one or two. But despite these needed cuts, I think we will still produce a final cut of the film-opening that is of good quality. This final cut will hopefully be finished at some point this week, and after that we will just have to do our critical reflection to finish our portfolio for this class. However, it is possible that our schedule may shift slightly, as right now all of our other AICE classes are preparing us for their respective tests. But regardless, I have confidence we will get it done. However, that is enough about the future; now is a good time to reflect upon the filming we did. My Brother was the one behind the camera, while I was the actor. It was definitely a strain on our sanity, and I now understand the feud between actors and directors a lot more now. I'm mostly joking though. In all seriousness, it was definitely a novel and interesting experience. There were so many times where we would have to redo a scene or have a new take just because one small thing was off. Whether that little thing was the sound of the camera or me having difficulty tying my shoe, these things forced us to spend more time improving our product. Additionally, we filmed over two days, which meant we had to preserve the continuity of my bedroom both days. This was hard, as we needed to scatter my notebooks, paper, and bed spread very similar for both days, but I think we did pretty well. Surprisingly though, there was a scene we realized we wouldn't be able to put in our film. It involved our main character meeting with a friend outside his house, and the two of them would walk to school and banter a little bit. We filmed at around 7 o'clock in the morning, so it would have been hard to coordinate with one of our friends to play that character. I don't think this will hurt the film though, since we already filmed around 3 minutes and 30 seconds of footage, which was already way too much. Overall, I think the process of filming went relatively smoothing.

The Attention Economy

One of the major things we have learned about in the past couple of classes is the attention economy. The attention economy refers to how...
