So after a long and tiring school year, I finally finished this blog for my portfolio in this class. With my partner, I planned, edited, and filmed the opening for our film, Balancing Act. Then, I did my creative critical reflection to take time and think about how far my skills have come since I began taking this class. So this is the last blog that I'll write before this gets sent to Cambridge to be graded, hopefully with positive marks. With that being said, I just wanted to give a few remarks to round out the year.
Before I get started, I'd like to thank my partner and brother, Cole. Ever since we first signed up for this course, we knew we would work together, for better or for worse. Now, I can say without a doubt it was for the better. Through all the stress this course brought (which is a lot) he was there for me.
Now that all the mushy stuff is over, I can say I truly will never look at film and television the same way. When I watch the new episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier tomorrow, I'll be looking at it with all the knowledge I learned in this class. Throughout the first season of the show, I've been analyzing the background and other elements of mise-en-scene to make predictions about where the narrative will go, often with accuracy. I recognize the utilization of the 180 degree rule when two characters are sitting down at a table, having a discussion. I better understand the deeper meaning that musical choices make in the story. I have emerged from this class with a fresh new perspective, and that is something that I will always be thankful for.
My time management was also something that really got tested by this course, but I think I came out the other end with a better grasp of it, even if I still procrastinate every now and then. But I also really grew to understand what it's like to work with a partner for an entire class. I've never minded working with a group for an assignment every now and then, but it was really an adjustment to work together for an entire year. Again, this experience was made better since my partner in this case was my brother, but it still presented its challenged. Let me just say I now understand the drama between actors and directors on set. But in the end, this course gave me a very novel experience that I will always remember.
So with that ladies and gentlemen, I bid you farewell.
