Denotation and Connotation

In all media texts, including films, there are denotations and connotations that help convey messages. Denotations are signs that signal the literal meaning of something. For example, red denotates a part of the color spectrum. Connotations are signs that link one thing to another idea or concept. They may link things by repeated association with broader cultural concepts and values, as well as with meanings from personal history and experience. For example, the color red connotates anger. By understanding denotations and connotations, an individual will be able to understand more from the narrative that the creator has crafted. In addition, this past week has seen me start finishing up on my first case study on Netflix's marketing and distribution practices.
